The history of the Sanremo Speed Suit begins with a defeat for Castelli. It was back in 2009 and Castelli was sponsoring the Cervelo Test Team. At the Milan-San Remo of that year, Henrich Haussler, a Cervelo rider, was beaten by Mark Cavendish by just 2 cm, at the end of a race masterfully managed by the Cervelo Team.
Thus, Castelli began to think of a product that would allow those 2 cm to be recovered. This thought materialized in 2011, the year of the creation of the first Sanremo Speed Suit, a speed suit designed for aerodynamic performance capable of cutting through the air and reducing wind resistance.
Sanremo revolutionized the way riders dressed. Since then it has been tuned many times in collaboration with some of the fastest athletes on the World Tour.
Already in 2011, Castelli and Cervelo (which had changed its name to Garmin-Cervelo) managed to take a great revenge at Paris-Roubaix, when the Belgian rider Johan Vansummeren, wearing the new speed suit, triumphed solo with a gap of 19 seconds on the Swiss Fabian Cancellara.

In the following years, Castelli worked constantly on the speed suit to make continuous improvements and other successes arrived.
Finally, in 2017, while Castelli was the official sponsor of the Sky team, the Sanremo Speed Suit achieved its first victory and real revenge at the Milano-Sanremo, when Kwiatowski outsprinted Sagan and Alaphilippe, taking the win for just a few centimeters.
